Behavioural questions seek past examples of specific behaviour to assess the presence or absence of a particular skill, performance factor or competency.

  1.  What has been the most significant presentation or report you have had to undertake to date?
  2. Tell me about a time when you were able to motivate your colleagues and staff.
  3. When you’ve had a boring job to do, how did you handle it?
  4. Give me an example of a time when you have had to use information gathering skills to solve a problem.  how did you analyse the information to come to a decision?
  5. In what circumstances did you have to make a quick decision?
  6. When one of your stff’s performance deteriorated, what did you do?
  7. Give me an example of an occasion when you had to conform to a policy with which you did not agree.
  8. Tell me about a goal that you have accomplished and how you reached it.
  9. Give me an instance at work when you have had to let others know how you felt or thought.
  10. Give me an example of when you had to go above and beyond the call of duty to get a job done.
  11. What has been the most creative work project you have undertaken?
  12. Think of a situation where a misunderstanding with a colleague or client arose.  how did you solve the problem?
  13. What did you do in your last job to contribute towards team work.  Be specific.
  14. Describe a situation in which you were able to positively influence the actions of others in a desired direction.
  15. Describe a situation in your job when you could structure your own work schedule.  What did you do?
  16. Describe a situation when you changed your plans when your understanding of people’s needs changed.
  17. Give me an example when you were able to communicate with another person even though that person may not have liked you.
