A sad goodbye to the Stockpot

I just wanted to give a mention to the Stockpot. I really loved this place. I was introduced by a gay friend of mine and our bi monthly meetings would start in Molly Moggs and move to the Stockpot where I invariably had a variation on liver and bacon. They cut it fine and grilled it and if you like liver, it was delicious.

I took other friends and family there. My more aspirational contacts were less impressed with its café vibe, but I thought for all fresh ingredients and value for money in the centre of London it was unbeatable and the service was excellent.

My only other recommendation is Le Mercury (the original one – I have never been to its sister café yet) on Upper Street, Islington. I have been going there for probably 20 years and was introduced by a work colleague. Our team had their Christmas dinner there this week – £20 for 3 courses. It is French cuisine, but again for quality and value it is magnifique! The prices have stayed incredibly reasonable over the years and I have never had a bad meal there.

I would love to hear any recommendations in this price bracket.
