the swimming pool
Yesterday after breakfast and reading the development plan again for my meeting with Oxfam I went with V1 and V2 on V1’s membership to a swanky swimming pool where the few people in the pool were white or Chinese. It is lush to spend 4 hours swimming, lolling about in the sunshine and picking their brains on Sri Lanka plus past volunteer experiences. It is Cameroon repeating itself, dodgy marriages, fallings out when volunteers don’t get listened to, disgruntled endings. Is it depressing? Can I make my own ending different? I don’t know at this stage. V1 & 2 are awesome, stunning older women, passionate cyclists. I ended up having G&T onV2’s veranda of her spectacular open plan flat. Not one volunteer I have met so far lives on their allowance. It will be interesting to see if it’s possible. I had a nice, uber-privileged person day.
