Russia 3 Moscow Kremlin
Our tour guide to go round the Kremlin was Max. His favourite 20th century Russian leader was Gorbachev. Max had been born in Siberia, trained as a History teacher, went to New York for four years and now worked freelance as a guide. He said he understood what Gorbachev was trying to achieve. He wanted to make things better for ordinary Russians.
When we were in the Kremlin we saw the presidential cavalcade.
What will I remember from the tour? Catherine the Great’s dress when she was 16 and its tiny waist; the coronation dress and train covered with the double headed eagle, Fabergé eggs and the stuffed horses.
After the Kremlin we had lunch and then went to Gorky Park and the Modern Art museum. What will I remember? The hairy lady with the baby shaped like a human hand or a squid’s head which was so disturbing I didn’t take a picture of it; the salt room which was very soothing and a story about a parrot that said ‘you be good. I love you’ to its owner the night before he died.
