‘do it’ quotes

I am a big reader of self-help books – more on that another time. I am also inspired by the odd quote.

Before I went to Cameroon I kept the Andre Gide quote by the kitchen sink

‘One does not discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time.’

Below are the 3 quotes that were in the forefront of my mind when I was trying to prepare myself mentally for Sri Lanka.

The first one is from Theodore Roosevelt. He and his wife Eleanor seem to be credited with writing a lot of good stuff although he probably had a dozen anonymous wordsmiths behind him.

‘The only time you really live fully is from thirty to sixty. The young are slaves to dreams; the old servants of regrets. Only the middle-aged have all their five senses in the keeping of their wits’.

The next 2 are from Joy C Bell who I had never heard of, but came across on the internet

number 1 ‘Don’t be afraid of your fears. They’re not there to scare you. They’re there to let you know something is worth it.’

number 2

‘The only way that we can live is if we grow

The only way that we can grow is if we change

The only way that we can change is if we learn

The only way that we can learn is if we are exposed

The only way that we are exposed is if we throw ourselves

in to the open.

Do it. Throw yourself.’
