canal culture
I like Whilton Marina a lot and I am glad, that as complete novices, we bought our boat there. They are extremely helpful.

The husband of the previous owners died during the period we were buying the boat. They had had many boats. You can tell their experience from the interior design which is beautifully organised while maintaining some historic semblance of the canal boat ‘look’. The pink florals don’t do it for me.
What has struck me first as a novice?
- I am amazed how many people live on boats moored permanently in marinas
- I am amazed how many boat owners get their food delivered
- So far the genre of people we are meeting take me back to my hippy roots. I am a student back in 1977-80
- I have already picked out the wardrobe – capsule size obviously
I loved this impromptu music event canal-side one Sunday afternoon
Anxieties?
When we holidayed on a boat way back I had no fear. The children were opening and closing locks aged 7-8. Now I have read up on all the things that might go wrong.
The whole pooing / weeing thing on a boat. I’d rather do it al fresco.
Update on Noah the dog
He went to his first puppy training class. I have done nothing in the first 2 weeks I have had him other than expose him to new experiences – children, people, traffic, other dogs, horses, tractors, train, pubs – all good. pooing and weeing a bit better, but not much.
chewing – rugs and cushions and wood. Not interested in toys.
Anyway, we practised sit, stand, down and control over access to food.
