part share in a canal boat
During the lock down I did many things. I did a lot of thinking and took actions on the thinking. I also bought a puppy and a part-share (provisionally for 3 years) on a canal boat.
Noah the puppy looks like Snowy from Tin Tin. I didn’t originally intend to get a white-haired Lakeland Terrier. I was going to get a wire-haired Fox Terrier, but the litters did not materialise and in the end I stumbled on Noah, also from Wales. He was brought up in kennels so weeing and pooing outside is a challenge, but he is the calmest, sweetest most curious puppy otherwise.
The boat is currently in the Whilton Marina near Daventry and we are in the preparation weeks before leaving.

Getting a canal boat has never figured in any of my planning – ever. A canal boat was always Former Husband’s thing and at the time he left, we had an ISA with canal boat savings in. What is it’s appeal now?
- uncertainty about my job future
- the opportunity to share cost and responsibility with someone I trust
- outdoor life – remember I had a horse for 20+ years
- simple living – experiences in Cameroon and Sri Lanka
- perpetual movement – the sense of travel in a time when travel abroad is limited
The boat is perfect – compact and in good condition – although it needs a paint job outside.
We are going to rename it Resilience which seems apt for both of us.
