Rochester Awayday

We had an away day with work in Rochester.  One of our new Family Mosaic colleagues lives there so organised it.  I have never been to Rochester.  It was OK.  The fast South Eastern train from St Pancras was a disappointment because I sat by the window hoping for a view and most of it was tunnels!

The historic High Street is very close to the station.

The houses have lots of history which you could google.   I especially liked the house set up by some philanthropist to offer lodgings to 4 people every night and to give them some cash when they left, but repeat visits were limited!

The cathedral is beautiful and has lots of helpful volunteers.

We went on the Friday before Dickens week-end so there was a Christmas market in the castle.  This was a little bit tacky.  It was a bit poundland-esque, but would be good for stocking fillers.  The shops on the High Street are vintage and quirky, but I didn’t have time to fully explore.

We had our meeting downstairs in the Italian, ate (loved the spinach and ricotta parcels), had a wander round and retired to the pub – Ye Arrow – which was probably not the most attractive, served one glass bottles of wine which caused some comment, but was eminently suitable as we weren’t bothering anyone as we drank.  I left about 7pm.  I am not sure when the others went.

Definite day trip recommendation.
