beleaguered July 2006

I am beleaguered!

This is just a very quick July update from the Hay email. I am going away to Namibia with J2 on Sunday and I just wanted to write to you because I am so conscious of not being in touch for a while and I always worry something bad will happen and I won’t have said good-bye to people I care about properly.

I decided finally I was going to Namibia even if FP couldn’t come, because I had some redundancy money left and because I didn’t want to pass up on an opportunity to have a memorable holiday with J2 (second to last one – it’s one year of car – then holidays with mates thereafter!) and because, being the sort of person I am, I can’t bear a summer with dosh in my pocket and no chance of adventure. It’s a patched together thing of the cheapest deals I could muster – 3 nights in Cape Town, overnight bus to Namibia – joining some 18 – 30 type thing camping for 12 days then fly back from Windhoek. I am a bit scared – it takes me a bit outside my comfort zone – but not scared enough not to do it! We’ve been jabbed, though the malaria tablets were a shock at £150! Apparently the mosquitoes there have become resistant to cheaper brands!

I didn’t get the push from Scarman, at least I haven’t yet. What happened was that the people who were trying to get me out got the sack, not because of that obviously, but because they were otherwise deemed incompetent. Anyway, within a very short space of time, Scarman are back interested in Can Do Freedom travel and FP has a contract with them for one year to work on it full time. So basically he has moved in to Luton and we are getting over the shock to our single person systems and looking to do up his house to rent out. We have also been invited to put in a bid to the Nigerian government. Of course absolutely nothing could come of it.

Otherwise the double glazing ended in a trauma, but actually ended up being cheaper but not for a good reason. The end product is fine – the process was gruesome. J1 had his beloved bike stolen from outside the house – great anguish – they’ve found it, but written off – and meantime I reinsured my car for him to drive for 5 weeks over the summer. I don’t really need it so much while I’m commuting and now I get dropped off and picked up from the station!

I haven’t really been able to enjoy the wonderful sun. The London office is sweltering without air conditioning and last week I’ve developed some sort of allergy and been quite wheezy. I’m a bit run down I think and ready for 2 weeks of complete change.

When I get back I hope to be revitalised and get back into my routine and regular visits/ contact with friends. I hope you are having a wonderful summer.
A big hug.
